Photography assessment 2023
For my assessment I am going to be focusing on a person called Olivia Parker. The theme is collections. This image was made in 1984.
What can you see?
In this photo I can see some shells placed in the middle of the image. Another thing that is in the image is the shadow of something which are in line with each other. On the top of the image there is a bunch of white sticks scattered around on the white sand. On the sand there is some little stones just above the shells. In the top corner of the image there is a reflection of a wheel it looks like a wooden wheel.
How do you think Olivia Parker created this image?
I think Olivia Parker created this image by going to the beach at finding a nice place to find some nice shells and sticks to take an image on some nice white sand. Olivia used shadows to add more detail to the image. She added shadows by putting some objects above the frame and a light source hitting the objects to add shadows. Olivia created this image in black and white.
How does this image make you feel?
This image makes me feel relaxed and calm because it’s a simple image and nothing much is happening. This image can also make you feel less stressed, and it might make you feel less anxiety. If I could speak to the artist I would ask the question, how did she make it? I would ask this because I am interested how this photo was put together. Another question I would ask is where is this image created? I would ask this question because I am not sure about the background of the image it looks like sand, and it also look like a bed sheet. My final question would be why did she make this image? I would ask this question because I want to know why this image was put together?
How does some basic research help you understand the picture and the artist practice? how does your understanding of the picture change/improve?
